Happy Tuesday, lovelies! For a while now I’ve been thinking of addressing a topic that’s been on my mind often, especially when I meet with potential clients and see how stressed some of them can be while planning their wedding.
Every time I meet with a perspective client I mention how important it is to just enjoy your wedding day, and be in the moment and worry-free. So wouldn’t it be great to have someone (who is not your family member or friends) who could take care of all the little things (even the tiniest things you had no idea about!) on your wedding day and make sure your day runs smoothly? Erin from Eventful Planning does exactly that and she’s awesome at it!
I got to chat with her a few days ago and got some info which will hopefully help Calgary brides in their wedding planning. Because who doesn’t want a stress-free wedding?!
-How did you start in this business? What do you enjoy the most while planning a wedding?
I suppose you could say that I’ve been grooming myself for a career in event planning ever since my first job in high school, working as an employee of a catering company. I’ve had my hands in events and weddings ever since so now owning my own planning company is exciting, tiring and rewarding all at the same time! I really love it when a couple starts to see all the pieces come together; when they can actually visualize the story of their wedding day, it’s priceless. I also get the opportunity to work with some amazingly, talented people in this industry so it’s always fun.
-Tell me about your favourite wedding.
That’s a tough one, each couple and their wedding is so special in it’s own way. I did; however, finally get to plan a wedding that included fireworks last year. I LOVE fireworks, so it was extra special! This couple was so fun to work with and all the little special touches we were able to include was just amazing!

-What do you think about the wedding planning industry in Calgary? Is our city one of the leading ones in wedding trends?
The Calgary wedding planning industry is amazing. While we often compete for business, we are all super supportive of each other. Industry groups such as the Calgary Bridal Association (CBA) and International Special Events Society (ISES) really help to bring us together as a community where we can share our triumphs and trials and learn from each other. I would have to say that our city is one of the leading ones in wedding trends. As an industry we strive to bring the newest trends locally to Calgary so that our couples can have and experience them.
-What is going to be popular in wedding sin 2016? Which colours? Decor?
I’m seeing many of my couples put the highest importance on really creating a fun experience for their guests while at the same time trying to create a romantic and intimate environment. For instance, if you absolutely love Italy you might bring that Italian experience by having your tables in longer rows and the meal might be family style instead of plated or buffet-style serving.
When it comes to settings and themes, barns and rustic chic are still really big with some of my couples. Thick, wooden, rectangular tables instead of round ones, chairs without much bling if any and florals that have a ‘picked that morning’ look. The colours tend to be soft pastels and a hint of metallic such as rose gold or gold – which together almost make you feel like you are walking into a dream!

– In your opinion, what is the #1 reason to hire a wedding/event planner?
So you don’t lose the love of everyone around you or wish you had eloped HA HA – kidding! There are so many benefits of hiring a planner I could list, but the #1 benefit I always hear from my couples is the fact that we help keep your sanity and everyone involved keep theirs too. The average wedding takes over 200 hours to plan and with work, maybe kids, a healthy social life and your relationship – how do you fit it all in?
We can be there for you, every step of the way, to make sure the wedding planning process goes as smoothly as possible. Then, on your wedding day, we take care of every little detail so you and your guests can fully enjoy your magical day.
